Protect, Restore, and Strengthen Your Smile
What Is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown (also called a cap) is a custom-made covering that completely encases a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring its strength, shape, and natural function. Crowns protect teeth that can’t be repaired with fillings or other types of restorations, helping preserve your smile and bite for years to come.
At Peak Dental Utah, we use high-quality, tooth-colored materials that blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. Our crowns are designed for both beauty and durability — so you can smile, chew, and speak with total confidence.
Why You Might Need a Crown
Dental crowns can solve both cosmetic and structural issues, including:
• Broken or fractured teeth
• Cosmetic enhancement or discoloration
• Advanced tooth decay
• Large or fractured fillings
• Root canal–treated teeth needing reinforcement
Whether you need to repair a single tooth or complete a full restoration, a crown is often the best long-term solution for strength and protection.
Types of Crowns We Offer
There are several types of crowns, but porcelain crowns remain the most popular choice for their natural look and long-lasting durability. Porcelain mimics the color, shape, and translucency of real teeth, providing a flawless, aesthetic result.
At Peak Dental Utah, we also offer same-day crowns using advanced CEREC® technology, allowing patients to receive a fully custom-designed crown in just one visit — no temporary crown or follow-up appointment required.
Ask your dentist if a CEREC same-day crown is right for you.
What to Expect During a Crown Procedure
Getting a crown usually requires two visits, unless you’re a candidate for same-day treatment.
First Appointment:
-
We begin by numbing the area and gently reshaping the tooth to make space for the crown.
-
Precise digital impressions are taken to design your custom crown.
-
A temporary crown is placed to protect your tooth while your permanent crown is fabricated by a dental lab (usually within two weeks).
Second Appointment:
-
The temporary crown is removed, and the tooth is cleaned.
-
Your new crown is carefully fitted, adjusted, and permanently cemented.
-
We check your bite for comfort and alignment before finalizing the placement.
With CEREC same-day crowns, both steps happen in a single visit — allowing you to walk out with a permanent crown the same day.
Caring for Your New Crown
With proper care, your crown can last many years. Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing daily, and visit us regularly for checkups and cleanings to ensure your crown and surrounding teeth stay healthy. Avoid biting hard objects like ice or pens to prevent unnecessary wear.
Restore Strength and Confidence to Your Smile
Whether your tooth is cracked, decayed, or cosmetically flawed, a dental crown offers lasting protection and a natural look you’ll love.
At Peak Dental Utah, we combine modern technology and expert craftsmanship to create crowns that look, feel, and function like real teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long do dental crowns last?
On average, porcelain crowns last between 10 and 15 years, but with proper care, they can last much longer. Regular dental visits and good hygiene help extend their lifespan.
Is getting a crown painful?
Not at all. The procedure is done under local anesthesia, so you won’t feel pain during treatment. Some mild sensitivity may occur after placement but usually fades quickly.
What’s the difference between traditional and CEREC crowns?
Traditional crowns require two visits and a temporary crown between appointments. CEREC crowns are made and placed the same day using digital 3D technology — offering speed, precision, and convenience.
